Our Story: Exploring the Scottish Highlands

A few years ago, Eric and Henry decided to give up their day jobs and commit full time to doing what they love, exploring Scotland's wonders and sharing her with others.

We first met many years ago at a Church in Edinburgh. Henry was walking down a stone staircase into the basement, which used to be the crypt, when suddenly he thought he saw a ghost! A figure dressed like Dracula appeared out of the shadows with a totally white face and hair that looked like it had been electrocuted. And that was the first time Henry met Eric... True story!

After becoming friends, realising we had similar interests, and Henry finally admitting that his beard would never be as superior as Eric's, Henry joined Eric working at a large, well known tour company in Scotland. We were both Driver Guides and spent our days taking groups of excited travellers around Scotland. It was brilliant. We learned so much about the industry and had a great time with the many wonderful people who worked there. It's great because we still meet our ex-colleagues out and about in the Highlands today!

Then, suddenly, out of nowhere, Covid hit the world and Tourism came to a halt. Eric and Henry suddenly found themselves with a lot of time on their hands, and a very large whisky collection in Eric's cupboard. As cold dark winter nights closed in, Henry and Eric spent many a night sitting around a crackling log fire, sipping a dram and sharing stories. What were we going to do to keep busy now that we weren't allowed to leave our local county?

Well, first we joined a charity and became key workers delivering emergency food packs to people. When that project ended, we became Amazon delivery drivers (what a workout that was, no lifts/elevators in Edinburgh flats!). Then we joined another charity and worked in a Homeless Shelter. And then, one cold dark stormy night it happened, an idea began to form.

What if we took a risk, a leap. What if we left the realms of paid employment, our jobs at the big tour company which we had enjoyed and which paid us a predictable wage, and invested all our time, money and energy into setting up our own small, independent tour company.

Why? Well, as wonderful as the larger tour company was, we knew that by going private, we could offer what larger companies could not. An individual focused, totally personalised service - one that cannot be found anywhere else.

Our goal? Not to become the biggest most profitable tour company in Scotland. No, our goal is to offer the highest level of quality, while keeping things as informal as possible; such that can only be offered by a small, personal tour company. Our goal is to make a living doing what we love - sharing the beauty of creation with you. Exploring the depths of the highlands and venturing off the beaten track with you!
